Pier 57

Client:
Let’s create something that isn’t market-y and won’t get boring during its two-year+ installation
Chuck:
How about a giant monster from the deep sea?
Client: YES!

As Google continues its spread across the Chelsea and Meatpacking area, we saw it fitting that sea / life takes over first. Playing off of the historical and engineering significance of Pier 57, we chose to embrace the water-bound architectural marvel anchored off of the Hudson River.

Working with illustrator, Carlos Zamora, an octopus peeks out from the windows while its tentacles spill out onto the pavement. As visitors get closer, vignettes of a mix of artisanal businesses, retail, dining and entertainment can be seen in each window bay.
